In the midst of internationalization, people in Taiwan need a global view by reading extensively and a conducive environment to learn languages. Our Bookstore--Beginning

In 1952, Caves was established on Chungshan N. Road in the bustling downtown area of Taipei and pioneered the Golden Age for foreign books in the 1960s and 1970s.

A Sensible Transformation amidst Tough Challenges

In the face of the mounting awareness of "copyright" during the Golden Age of Caves' boom, we kept abreast of the trend by transforming ourself with a solid dedication to this new era. First of all, we aspired to publish strictly through lawful licensing, imported copyrighted foreign books and published education orientated language materials and dictionaries. In 1986 as Copyright Laws were amended in Taiwan for written works to sound protection. Foreign books began to be registered in Taiwan. As a result, foreign publishers tried to import their books directly into Taiwan instead of licensing them. Amidst such new trends, Caves did its best to bargain with foreign publishers for the lowest possible import prices, providing a new market channel to publishers who were bullish about Taiwan's brilliant future market and Caves' tremendous potential.

Toward a Brilliant Future Prospects

In firm and solid paces, Caves has, extended its horizons. Through English language learning materials for children, adults and collegiate students, Caves promoted its diverse publications to colleges, universities and libraries throughout the island. Since 1985, Caves has hosted numerous English seminars and panel discussions for children and adults, as well as setting up children-oriented English studios and service centers. We diligently safeguard knowledge and devote ourselves to disseminating this information and know-how into every corner. Due to our exceptional effort, we look forward to promising prospects.

Renovated into a New Restart

Caves lives up to the newly renovated for a fresh start. Today, the term "Caves" stands not only for a place or a name. It suggests an index, a milestone. In 1997, Caves chose a 650-ping plot of land (1 ping = 3.3 m2 = 36 ft2) in Neihu in suburban Taipei. The magnificent Caves Building with 2,000 pings of floor space accommodates all Caves employees alongside its affiliates which, notably include Kaiser Kastle and Kuan Tang. The Caves Building embodies tremendous strength and represents a solid sign post to lead us further forward. As a publication conglomerate, such a huge construction suggests a bold vision toward an unpredictable future. As a matter of fact, we are already witnessing the brilliant vision with full preparedness. Since Taiwan's English language market continues to evolve, Caves will play a more dazzling role as the new milestone on the freeway of knowledge.

1952	Caves Books came into being at 99 Chungshan N. Road, Sec. 2 in downtown Taipei.
1980	Caves Books reorganized itself into a company limited by shares.

Leading Position

In 1984, Caves Books set up the main target -- to be a professional group of language teaching-- and began the difficult way to explore this professional field. But we insist that this is a necessary and expected road for all of us. We are willing to try our best and make efforts to open the new age of English teaching and learning.

Establishment English Education Service Center

Caves established the English Education Service Center in April 1991 to first of all serve teachers in English education with on-the-job training programs. The curricula consists mainly of two categories, namely teaching theories and approaches and the application of teaching materials. This English Education Service Center is Taiwan's first non-government organization and publication firm to offer professional on-the-job English teaching training programs to teachers. The English Education Service Center become independent in 1995 and was renamed Caves Educational Training Co., Ltd.

The Educational English Magazine

In 1993, Caves published "Caves English Teaching Quarterly. " This magazine focuses on English teachers , need by providing special recommendation of English language teaching related theories, methodologies, application of teaching materials, including non-periodical recommendation of relevant teacher training programs as well as FAQ. This magazine is Taiwan's sole magazine aimed at English language teachers. By this magazine Caves offers more enriching and newer information to teachers, casting constructive influence upon Taiwan's English language education.

Publication of various languages materials

In 1993, Caves set Kuan Tang International Publications Ltd. and became the dealership of European books in Taiwan. Besides, Caves also cooperated with teachers in the academic associations to publish kinds of languages textbooks in order to offer language learners the most complete publications in Taiwan. Now, Kuan Tang is famous for its import of foreign languages resources.

The import of PhonePass Spoken English Test

In 2001,Caves singed a contract with Ordinate Corporation, U.S.A., and formally introduced PhonePass Spoken English Test (PhonePass SET) to Taiwan. PhonePass SET is administered over the telephone and calculates accurate scores momentarily. Caves expects with the import of PhonePass SET, the English test quality will promote to higher level and Taiwan can follow up the technological information and knowledge. In addition to the above, Caves sponsored "English Education Seminar I " in 1985; " English Spelling Bee for Children " in 1989,and "Adult English Language Education Seminar "in 1991, These innovative activities acted as significant catalysts in the field.

Beyound Others, We Hold More in Hand

Here at Caves, we have two kinds of retail outlets, which make Caves different from other bookstores :Retail outlets in English and retail outlets on campus.
The retail outlets in English are Caves' masterpieces. While the English-learning environments were not yet well built, Caves started up test courses, successfully making itself and professional bookstore through exquisite architecture, original logs, slates and marbles, with warm, fragrant and human-friendly room, as the model styles widely used in today's leading bookstore chains, fragrant and human-friendly room, as the model styles widely used in today's leading bookstore chains. Through more forward-looking vision, Caves further extended the bookstore horizons. The success in English book outlets has justified our forward-looking vision. Caves'success in campus outlets verifies another advanced philosophy.
In the constant philosophy to help Taiwan's consumers enhance their English proficiency, we have tried hard keep Taiwan's key intellectuals aware of how important English reading comprehension is.

In fact, Caves has been stationed in nine public and private universities in Taiwan to become their campus bookstores. Caves set up the first campus bookstore at Feng Chia University in central Taiwan in 1993. Thanks to the comprehensive resources in language education and professional services, we have won widespread acclaim on campuses and have been requested to serve more and more campuses with Caves Bookstores. Professionalism is one of the key factors making Caves appealing to those schools.
Among numerous book chains in Taiwan, Caves is the sole one having successfully entered campuses. To further render convenience to school faculty and students, Caves teams up with well-known coffee shops so as to offer graceful and elegant reading environments on campuses. The success on campus suggests a new milestone on the Caves horizon. In the days and years ahead, we will try harder with bolder vision to make Caves retail outlets expand toward unlimited new heights.

Future

In the future, the world will be timeless, no boundaries, and our visions will be infinite; all the fences in the world will be disappeared. Thus, the interaction of non-boundary will be very necessary. In the future, Caves will be the representative of the cross bridge and will lead Taiwan melting into the globe. We expect that Caves will be the most powerful and trustworthy language-learning bookstore and the most professional dealership for foreign books. People in Taiwan will share their reading and learning experiences in the unlimited environment.
