Departing from the conventional step-by-step approach to introducing quantum mechanics, Morris begins with an overview of the field, then explains much of the mathematics that underpins the Schr鐰inger equation before introducing the equation itself. Then he returns to a more usual order, dealing with angular momentum and intrinsic spin towards the end of the book. An introductory text is not the place to delve deeply into the philosophy of quantum mechanics, he says, but he does give some space to the nagging feeling that many have about the field.
