1979年在伊朗爆發的伊斯蘭革命，由回教基本教義派取得政權，開始一連串的保守改革，改變了伊朗人民與瑪贊．莎塔琵的生活。瑪贊的生活再也無法像之前那樣自由自在，她開始得要戴頭巾、學校無預警的關閉、到處都是街頭抗爭、大批的流民搶購食物……9歲的小女孩，正如世界上其他小女孩一樣，瑪贊喜愛幻想與冒險，只是她提早一步接觸到大人世界的現實與社會所經歷的巨大變動。
