• MULTIPLE LITERACIES: Trailblazer takes a multiple literacy approach to prepare students for meaningful real-world interaction by developing five key literacies: textual literacy, visual literacy, global literacy, social literacy, and media literacy.

• CRITICAL THINKING: Lessons that engage students with authentic nonfiction, globally diverse fiction, and information presented through multimedia inputs prompt students to think critically and apply their language and skills to real-world contexts, developing confident readers and thinkers and inspiring active global citizens.

• ROLE MODELS: The real-life stories of National Geographic Explorers inspire a new generation of trailblazing students to make a positive impact in their communities.

• ASSESSMENT: The language and literacy Assessment Suite on Spark allows teachers to differentiate instruction based on student performance and practice task types like those found on international exams. Teachers can assign premade or customized tests and track student progress against learning objectives.

The Trailblazer Workbook provides further opportunities for students to work with the language, concepts, and perspectives from the Student's Book. With unique fiction and nonfiction texts in each unit and extended practice opportunities for vocabulary, grammar, writing, and multiple literacies, the Workbook offers:

• Process writing, allowing students to plan, draft, review with peers, and revise their written work.
