When her parents suddenly die in India, ten-year-old Mary Lennox goes to live in her uncle's big, sad house in England. The house has many secrets: rooms she cannot visit, strange cries in the night and a garden closed by a high wall and without a door. Who is crying? Why is the garden closed and what is its secret? Mary is ready to find out with the help of her new friend, Dickon, who can speak to animals.
