這是一本很溫暖的生命教育繪本。

小女孩天真地說她要永遠跟爺爺在一起，爺爺當然很開心，但是也提醒小女孩，如果她一直待在爺爺身邊，就會錯過生命中的其他好風景。於是，爺爺帶著小女孩走進森林，把自己的老朋友——一棵橡樹，介紹給小女孩，展開一段生命教育之旅。

爺爺用橡樹配合四季生長的節奏，來向小女孩說明人的生命也和橡樹一樣，有開始也有結束。春天的時候，橡樹的嫩芽長了出來，就像現在的小女孩一樣，即將茁壯成長。夏天，生意盎然，一切都生氣勃勃，正是生命力最旺盛的時期，爺爺帶著小女孩在陽光下野餐，盡情的享受美好的時光。秋天，橡樹樹枝上的葉子開始凋零，小女孩無法接受可能和老橡樹告別。但是，爺爺說這是大自然的運作方式，生命也是如此。改變也不一定是不好的。冬天終於還是來了，爺爺也臥病在床。小女孩每天為爺爺畫畫，也陪伴爺爺。當然也不忘去看看也生病的老橡樹。當小女孩在寒冬裡抱著老橡樹，哀戚地喊著：「再撐一下！不要離開！春天就快來了！」每一個讀者應該都會為這一幕動容。

春天來了，爺爺的病好了起來，老橡樹卻走了。每一個結束都是另一個全新的開始。我們看到小女孩在接下來的春夏秋天裡成長，為人母，帶著兒子來到剛剛發出新芽的老橡樹下……
